Story of The Year![]() MYSPACE | Storyoftheyear.net Rachel: How and when did Story Of The Year form? Dan: Ryan, Josh, and I all went to high school together and we had a few different bands through those years. Sometime in 1998, Ryan and I started a band called Big Blue Monkey with a couple other guys. A couple years later we kicked a couple guys out, asked Adam and Josh to join, and Story Of The Year was born. We officially changed the name sometime in 2000 around the same time we found a beautiful man named Phil to play second guitar. The rest is history. Rachel: Where did the name "Story Of The Year" come from? Dan: The band name came from a song that BigBlueMonkey had named "story of the year". It was a fan favorite in the Saint Louis area, and it gave us good memories. Rachel: What are some of your musical influences? Dan: Our band has a wide range of musical influences. Me personally, I find inspiration in a wide range of bands like H2O, Bad Religion, Suicide Machines, Sick Of It All, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and a million more. I just love any music that has something to say. Rachel: We havent really heard much from you guys lately, what has the band been up to? Dan: We've been working on a new record for the last 6 months. We have over 20 songs and we are going to start recording real soon. We're just putting some finishing touches on everything. Rachel: i see you have a couple tour dates this summer, whats your favorite thing about touring? Dan:Yeah, we booked a couple summer shows just to get out of Ryan's basement and get the excitement of playing shows again. Writing music is an awesome thing, but sometimes nothing beats getting on stage and screaming for an hour. That's definitely my favorite part of touring, playing a show every day and feeling a thousand kids screaming along with you. That's awesome. Rachel: Do you have any memorbale fan experiences? Dan: We've actually met a lot of amazing people over the years. We try really hard to stay in touch with our fans as much as possible, and every time a fan tells me that we have changed their life or helped them through hard times it is a memorable experience. It happens quite often and I still love it every time. Rachel: Whats next for soty as far as a new album or touring? Dan: Like I said before, we will be recording the 3rd record over the next couple months and then back on tour at the end of the year. We also have a new DVD that is done and pending release right now. It should be out within the next couple months as well. 2008 will be a big year for SOTY. Rachel: Any last words for your fans and the readers? Dan: To anyone taking the time to read this, or anyone who has ever given our band a chance, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. The music business is a fucked up, evil, greedy piece of shit. Support the bands. Love the music. Don't buy in to the rest. Thank You.
