Breathe Carolina

Myspace

Breathe Carolina a dynamite two-piece group hailing from Denver. They combine electronica, metal, and pop, fusing it together to make the perfect type of energetic music that you can't help but dance and sing along to. When one thinks of electronica or techno, names like Benny Benassi or Prodigy may come to mind, but Breathe Carolina is about to give us a breath of fresh air when it comes to electronia music. I recently spoke with Kyle and Dave of Breathe Carolina and got to ask them a few questions about the group, in between the awful ins and outs of cellphone signals and a lot of "what"s and laughing. So here's a version of the interview without the "Can you hear me now" sound of a Verizon commercial.

Arie: So, What are you up to?
Kyle: Going to chill with Dave, we have a show tomorrow. We're getting our show stuff ready, yeah it should be a pretty good time. You ever heard of To Write Love On Her Arms? It's a benifit concert for that.

Arie: How did BC form?
Kyle: Dave and I started it on accident. like we got snowed in. It was this like blizzard out here in Denver. I got stuck at his house, he was living with my old roommate in my old house, so i was hanging out with him. and we made our first song together, which is actually on my personal profile. uh, idk then he moved in with me later on and we started making songs, we started our myspace in march. pretty much when breathe carolina started. cause thats when we had a myspace, so... being a band. we werent panning like "lets write songs and put it online and play shows." we made a song and dug it and were like "lets see how it does", so.

Arie: So, How did you guys come up with the name?
Kyle: Dave actually had a dream about a lady named Carolina and it was kinda like a weird dream he was having, because she was doing eveyrthing he was doing,. he was telling her everything was ok, telling her to breathe and he kept having that dream and he wanted to name something Breathe Carolina for a long time , and we needed a name and were just like "lets do it". Dave and I have pretty much done everything, if we dont likes something we wont do it, which has been fun.

Arie: Are you guys best friends?
Kyle: oh yeah!
Arie: What's it like doing Breath Carolina with your best friend?
Kyle: probably the best time, making music. the shows have been ridiculous. Everything has been so fun.

Arie: How long have you known each other?
Kyle: Oh, Couple years. We didn't actually become really close until probably about a year and a half ago. He played in a band called As The Floor Waters Rose and I was playing in a band called Rivendale. So they're more metal based. And we played together a few times, I went and hung with his band, I was in Littleton and he was in a place called Arvada, which was about 30 minutes away. So I would hang out with them, then um their band split, my band split. I started a band with his drummer. That split and I went and did a band called Autobiography. They toured a little and did that thing. That's kinda how the circle revolves around, I was living with my drummer and Dave moved in, I moved out and moved in with my friend, its a circle that kinda happened.

Arie: Has Breath Carolina toured?
Kyle: Not yet, were planning on it. We wanna finish our record.

Arie: How would you describe Breath Carolina's sound?
Kyle: uhh, Dj Irene meets uh I dunno haha, DJ Irene meets underOath meets ohman, aha uh N*sync I guess. haha

Arie: What kind of music are you personally into?
Kyle: Lately I've been listening to a lot of dance, techno, trance, just dj's basically. Dj Irene is huge for me lately. Dave's been really into Metro Station lately.

Arie: Do you think that influences the music you make?
Kyle: Well yeah, I guess.

Arie: Any big plans for Breath Carolina?
Kyle: Uhm,Yeah, Yeah I dunno, it's not like "we're gonna do this and this and this and this" I dunno, I dunno really, Basically I think, I don't know like neither of us have done a full length. We wanna do a full length album and go for that. We're producing it ourselves, so its hah, been rewarding. Its like, we didn't even mean for it to be anything. It's fun. It's definitely humbling.

Arie: What's some things you want people who listen to you to know?
Kyle: Um, that we're def gonna tour but we dont know when. we get it all the time like "come to our city". If you write to us, we try to write everyone back on myspace. Give us a message, we try to message everyone back.

Arie: How old are you?
Kyle: 22 on september 21st actually. Dave is 19, hell be 20 next year. so, gettin up there. ha

Kyle: Anything else you wanna ask? You can ask me anything?
Arie: Haha what are you wearing? haha
Kyle: haha! Jeans, south park t, vans shoes, and my hoodie. I've been lazy today

Arie: Well anything you want to say to Breathe Carolina fans?
Kyle: It's fun, and thank you so much for listening.

Dave: Hey.
Arie: Hey, I'm Arie.
Dave: Whats up, I'm Dave.

Arie: So, what do you do in Breathe Carolina?
Dave: I sing / make the music.

Arie: How do you feel about Breathe Carolina and everything you've accomplished thus far?
Dave: Happy. Really happy. Like it wasn't anything planned, it was crazy. Its turned into something really fun and fucking sweet. its honest, it shows who we are. its the truth. we're just fun guys who put that funness out there. we have fun. we put fun music out there so kids have something to dance to.

Arie: Do you have anything you want your fans to know?
Dave: I love each and every fan so much, every time we get a message we answer. we're so happy kids like the music we put out. i want then to know I love them a lot.
